ABOUT THE EVENT

The National Under 17 chess Championship organized by Dr.N.Mahalingam chess academy is one of its kind after 20 years in Coimbatore. Earlier, the National Chess Championship was organized during 1997 at Coimbatore which was inaugurated by Arutchelvar Dr.N.Mahalingam. The event is organized to pay tribute to our founder Dr.N.Mahalingam for his contributions to the chess society during his regime. This event is of great importance with participation of selected state chess champions from all the Indian States. The event will be organized during OCT 24th 2017 to NOV 1st 2017. The event starts with the inauguration function on OCT 24th 2017 and ends with the prize distribution function on NOV 1st 2017. It comprises of 11 rounds with each round consuming 4 hours. The selected players from this National Championship will be eligible for the Commonwealth Chess Games during MARCH 2018. The players will be competing with each other in improving their chess ratings and national rankings. The cash awards worth 2.5 lakhs are to be distributed to the winners according to their final standings.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
Age Limit : Players should be born on or after 1.1.2000
Age Proof : Each participant must produce a valid certificate to prove his/her age.
Certificates from School are not valid. Certificates shall be from the Panchayat, Municipality or Corporation obtained soon after birth. Players without date of birth certificates will not be allowed to participate. ** The date of birth certificates registered within one year of the birth of the child alone will be recognized and allowed to participate. No state association shall recommend any player who doesn’t come under the above criteria.   If any doubt arises regarding the claimed age of a player, the Tournament Committee has the right to refer the player during the championship for a due evaluation of age by competent medical experts. A player, if declared over-age by such experts, shall not continue in the championship and the matter shall be reported to the AICF. Protest about the age of players may be made to the Chief Arbiter in writing along with a fee of Rs. 5000/- per player. This amount will not be refunded. No protest about over-age of a player will be entertained after the 2nd round of the championship. Only the Coach or Manager deputed by the participating State Chess Association can lodge such protests. The Tournament Committee has the right to decide the day, time and place for such medical evaluation of age. AICF / organizers will have the right to refer any player to the medical evaluation of age at any time during the tournament. Players refusing to take the test as decided by the Tournament Committee shall be deemed to have failed the test and shall be disqualified from the Championship.

DAY : 1

Inauguration of Dr N Mahalingam 28th National Under 17 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2017

The event was inaugurated on October 24, 2017. It will be held at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore from October 24 to November 1, 2017. A National level Chess Tournament is being conducted in Coimbatore after 20 years since 1997. Over 170 state level champions (100 boys, 70 girls) from over 21 states are competing in this 9-day tournament. The selected chess players from this championship will be representing India in World Chess Championship and Commonwealth Games in 2018. A total prize money of Rs.2.50 lakhs will be on offer to the winners.

DAY : 2

The event begins at 9:30am. It was inaugurated by Mr. Kavin Kumar Kandasamy, Managing Director, Mangala Group of Institutions. Erigaisi Arjun of Telangana leads the round in the open category while Chitlange Sakshi of Maharashtra leads in the girls category. The afternoon session starts at 3:00pm. It was inaugurated by Dr. R.S Kumar, Principal, Kumaraguru College of Technology. Mitrabha Gupta of West Bengal leads the round in the open category while Chitlange Sakshi of Maharashtra leads in the girls category.

DAY : 3

The event begins at 09:30 AM, which was inaugurated by Prof. Devadoss, English Department and Prof. Vasantharaj, HOD, Automobile Department. Rathnavel V S of Tamilnadu leads the round in the open category while Jyosthna L of Tamilnadu leads in the girls category.

DAY : 4

The event starts at 9.30am. The game was inaugurated by Dr.PK Giridharan. He is a Professor of the Mechanical Department. Rathnavel V S of Tamilnadu leads the round in the open category. Niharika C H of Andhra pradesh leads the round in the girls category.

DAY : 5

The event starts at 3:00pm The game was inaugurated by Mr. Ravi Kandasamy. He is the vice president of Dr. N Mahalingam Chess Academy and he is also the Head of the Program Management Office. Rathnavel V S of Tamilnadu leads the round in the open category. Niharika C H of Andhra Pradesh leads the round in the girls category.

DAY : 6

The event starts at 9.30am. The game was inaugurated by Ashish Goyal. He is the Director in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Raja Rithvik R of Telengana leads the round in the open category. Arpita Mukherjee of West Bengal leads the round in the girls category.

DAY : 7

The round starts at 9:30am. The game was inaugurated by Dr.Rani Thottungal. She is the HOD of EEE Department. Rathnavel V S of Tamilnadu leads the round in the open category. Arpita Mukherjee of West Bengal leads the round in the girls category.

DAY : 8

The round starts at 9:30am. The game was inaugurated by Balagunasekharan R K. He is the Joint Secretary of the Tamilnadu State Chess Association. Raja Rithvik R of Telengana leads the round in the open category. Arpita Mukherjee of West Bengal leads the round in the girls category.

DAY : 9 (Chess Championship – Prize Distribution)

Prize distribution function for Dr N Mahalingam 28th National Under 17 Open & Girls Chess Championships 2017 happened on November 1, 2017 at KCT.

The 9 day tournament came to an ecstatic end with Over 170 state level champions (100 boys, 70 girls) from over 21 states from India.

Mr.P. Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Chess Association during his felicitation address, thanked the participants, their parents, officials, KCT Management for their good hospitality and continuous support throughout the tournament. Souvenir about the tournament was released by Dr.M.Manickam and received by Shri.R.Doraiswamy during the event. Mr.Vitthal Madhav, Chief Arbiter shared the tournament report. Participants and their parents shared their feedback about the tournament.

Cash prize of Rs.2.5 lakhs was given to the top 20 players in both open and girls category. The Winner of this tournament in the Open category is Raja Rithvik from Telangana. Erigaisi Arjun from Telangana & Mitrabha Guha from West Bengal were the first & second runner up. The Winner in the Girls category is Priyanka from Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Arpita Mukherjee from West Bengal & Tarini Goyal from Chandigarh were the first & second runner up.
