“The game of chess is not merely an idle amusement. Several very valuable qualities of the mind, useful in the course of human life, are to be acquired or strengthened by it… Life is a kind of Chess, in which we have often points to gain, and competitors or adversaries to contend with.”
– Benjamin Franklin
Training Programme
Step 1 (23 hours)
The first step concentrates on kids fairly new to the game. The basic rules of the game and the notation will be covered over the classes.
Step 2 (21 hours)
Here the kids learn to think a little and are introduced to the building blocks of tactical play. Basic mates and elementary motifs will be the areas focussed.
Step 3 (23 hours)
The deeper nuances of tactics will be revealed to the kids. Minimal attention will be given to openings, positional schemes and pawn endgames.
Step 4 (17 hours)
Here we introduce the players to preparatory moves and complex tactics. The lessons will require the players to think at least three moves ahead and attention will be given to a few positional schemes and endgame.
Step 5 (16 hours)
In step 5 we move away from tactics and towards strategy and positional schemes. Although tactics will not be neglected completely, the structure of the course will lean more towards the positional aspects of the game.
Advanced
By the time the players complete the five step course, they will be well prepared to tackle on the ocean that chess actually is. In the advanced class, we will concentrate on every aspect of the game, and will be more focussed on preparing the player for tournaments.
